A student has been charged today with stealing a meerkat.

The animal went missing from its enclosure at Wingham Wildlife Park near Canterbury just after Christmas.

It was later found dead in Sandwich.

Adam Catherick, 19, will appear at Folkestone Magistrates' Court court next month accused of theft.

A 47-year-old woman who was also arrested at the time has been charged with possession of cannabis.
