A teenager arrested after a pupil was attacked at a Medway school has been released on police bail.

The 15-year-old boy was quizzed by police on suspicion of assault after an incident at the Bishop of Rochester Academy yesterday.

Another 15-year-old boy had suffered what are described as minor face injuries.

A Kent Air Ambulance helicopter was called to the school, in Lethworth Avenue, Chatham, at about 1.50pm.

However, the victim was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by South East Ambulance Service.

Kent Police were called to the school and arrested the 15-year-old.

He was questioned by officers until being released on police bail pending further inquiries last night. He must return to Medway Police station on Wednesday, November 2.

A resident who lives near the school said she heard a helicopter noise soon after the attack.

She said: "I was doing the ironing when I heard it coming overhead and land in the playground. A few cars pulled over and had a look.

"We saw that it was the air ambulance and thought somebody had been hurt."
