Teenage crash driver 'stable'

A TEENAGER driver who suffered multiple injuries in a crash on the old Sheppey Way at Bobbing, near Sittinbgbourne, has been transferred to Kings College Hospital in London.

Sgt Steve Freeman, of Kent Police’s serious crash investigation unit based at Coldharbour, Maidstone, said the youngster’s condition remained serious but stable.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision in which the 17-year-old driver was injured just before 6.30pm last Thursday . The teenager was intially taken to Medway Maritime Hospital at Gillingham.

He was at the wheel of a silver Citroen Saxo with his 15-year-old brother as passenger when the accident with a white van occurred just outside the McDonald’s and Bobbing Apple restaurants.

Both the brothers had to be cut free by a crew from Sittingbourne Fire Station, with the roof of the Saxo lifted off in order to release the driver who was taken to Medway Martime Hospital.

The road was closed until almost 10pm while crash investigators examined the scene.
