International ultra-marathon runner, Julian Rendall of Tonbridge AC, won the 2012 North Downs Run 30k.

He crossed the line over two minutes ahead of Colchester’s Allen Smalls.

Rendall (pictured), second last year, completed this tough multi-terrain course in 2hr2min26sec.

Smalls (M40, 2:04:32) kept the champion honest to the line and Jim Addison (M40 Beckenham, 2:12:26) took the final rostrum step.

There was a brilliant win for Mel Frazier (Gravesend, 2:14:48) in the women’s race. Her pace was sufficient for fifth overall ahead of 425 finishers and she finished more than two miles clear of her nearest opposition, club mate Claire Gaskill (W35, 2:30:49).

Top local finishers in the men’s race included Martin Taylor (M40 Larkfield, 2:15:29), Ashley Howes (Larkfield, 2:20:52), Mark Mellon (M40 Gravesend, 2:21:27), Robert White (M40 Dartford Road Runners, 2:22:20) and Nathan Chapman (Larkfield, 2:26:10).

Mario Cientanni (Gravesend, 2:26:22) was the leading M50 master athlete.

Prominent in the women’s field were Heather Fitzmaurice (W40 Sevenoaks, 2:38:49) and Sarah Anne Mooney (Larkfield, 2:41:16).
