Town to get better power supply

EDF energy say the new cables will help cope with an increase in demand

A £21,000 project is set to improve electricity supplies in Bexleyheath.

EDF Energy will start installing new high-voltage cables this month to improve power in the area.

Three weeks ago thousands of customers were without power for up to 20 minutes and nearly 400 for hours after a power cut in the area.

The new energy cables should stop this happening again and tackle a recent increase in demand.

Director of Capital Programme at EDF Energy Networks Barry Hatton said: “This project is positive news for the area as it will improve the reliability of power supplies and ensure we can cater for growing demand for power in the future.”

Five roads in and around the town will be affected by the works as engineers lay the cables in trenches on the roads.

Those affected are Lion Road, Broadway, Abbey Road, Ethronvi Road and Pickford Road. The project is set to take 10 weeks.
