With issues such as food miles and organic farming growing in
importance, a small operation in Kent is showing how short a local
food chain can be.

There are a myriad of farms across the county offering meat
boxes and farm shops, and Chilton Farm has gone one better and
bought its own abattoir in Aldington.

industrial feel of a major slaughterhouse - and with a vet on the
premises the animals are taken care of.

But the journey starts 25 miles away in Alkham, where the farm
is based.
