Kent drug and alcohol support service the Kenward Trust has praised a pub gift token scheme for its responsible attitudes to alcohol.

PubTokens.com has teamed up with Faversham brewer Shepherd Neame and four other UK pub operators, for the scheme designed to get drinkers back into local pubs.

The initiative will see participating boozers across the county exchange the tokens - which are sold in £10 and £20 denominations - for drinks, food or accommodation.

It is hoped they will help the pub chains fight for a share of the gift voucher and card market, valued at £3.2billion annually.

The tokens are also planned to bring some festive cheer to publicans as they continue to battle the downturn in the economy and other factors such as the smoking ban and tax rises.
