Voters across the county are heading for the polls today to vote in the county council and European elections.

The results of both elections are now widely regarded as being pivotal in determining the fate of Gordon Brown and the Labour government.

At stake in the county council elections is a ballot to decide who will represent 84 divisions on the largest county council in the country. A total of 362 candidates are standing.

In the European elections, 10 seats are up for grabs in the South East region, which incorporates Kent. These results will be determined by a system of proportional representation. A total of 13 parties are fielding candidates.

Polling stations opened at 7am and will close tonight at 10pm. The results for the KCC elections will be declared tomorrow, with the first results expected mid-morning.

The results for the European elections will be declared on Sunday night.

Full details of candidates standing in the European election are available at the European Parliament's website.

A full results service and analysis will be provided by the KM Group online and on kmfm .
