Strong wind weather warning issued in Kent

A severe weather warning for has been issued as Kent is lashed by gusts of up to 60mph.

A swathe of strong winds is expected to move across the county throughout today.

The Met Office warning is in place from 11am to 9pm.

The conditions, accompanied by heavy downpours, could cause travel disruption.

The strongest gusts are expected to hit confined coastal areas at first, but strike further in land as the day progresses.

A Met Office spokesman said: "A swathe of strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain at times, will move east across the country on Saturday.

"This is expected to bring gusts of 45-55 mph, perhaps 60 mph later.

"Coastal areas exposed to the southwest are likely to see more frequent gusts of 55-65 mph."

But worse could be in store for tomorrow, and into Monday morning.

Forecasters have warned an unseasonally low pressure system could bring gale force winds - or even severe gale force winds across southern England.
