Woman charged in connection with baby's death

A WOMAN has been charged after the body of a baby boy was found in a hotel room. Police were called to the hotel in Dalby Square, Cliftonville, near Margate, on June 25 when a cleaner found the baby in a waste bin under a bed.

A post mortem and forensic investigations have been carried out but the cause of death is not yet known.

A 26-year-old woman from Dalby Square was arrested and charged with concealing the birth of a child. She appeared before Canterbury magistrates last Saturday and was remanded in custody. She will appear before Thanet magistrates on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Jon Holl said: “This is a tragic case. We are determined to establish the full facts surrounding this baby’s death.” Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Margate Police Station on 01843 222088.
