An elderly woman has been flown to hospital after being struck by a car as she crossed the A26 London Road in Southborough this morning.

The woman is thought to have been near the road at around 10.40am when she and a man she was with were hit by a Toyota Corolla car, travelling north towards Tonbridge.

Kent's air ambulance took the woman to King's College Hospital in London with a serious head injury.

The man was taken by land ambulance to the Kent and Susssex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells, with what are thought to be minor injuries. The Toyota driver was shaken, but unhurt.

Police closed the road between Springfield Road and Doric Avenue while officers carried out a crash investigation, but re-opened it at 2.50pm.

Anyone with information is asked to phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit’s witness appeal line on 01622 798538.
