A WOMAN driver died in a horrifying crash in Gillingham which did not involve any other vehicles.

It is believed that the 41-year-old drove her Ford Ka over the roundabout in Ito Way, the Gillingham Northern Link Road, near its junction with Cornwallis Avenue.

Ten Medway firefighters spent 45 minutes using cutting equipment to remove the unnamed woman from the car on Wednesday

Nicola Howlett, 25, drove past the crash and was “horrified” at the sight of the wreckage. She said: “I saw the car crushed to half with its width sitting sideways across the road. No one could have got out of that.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, at 12.05pm on Ito Way’s southbound carriageway. Anyone with any information should ring 01634 884252.
