A WOMAN had to be cut free from a car by firefighters after it collided with the central reservation on the A2 and rolled over several times.

She became trapped when the roof of the Ford Focus collapsed. The incident happened on the coast-bound carriageway at Pepper Hill, Northfleet.

The 57-year-old woman was airlifted by Kent Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel with suspected head, neck and back injuries.

Her condition was later described as "serious but stable". She has not been named.

Three other people in the car, believed to be family members, escaped unhurt.

A spokesman from Kent Fire and Rescue service said: “The car had rolled over but it ended back on its four wheels with one of them on the barriers.

“Fortunately, a London paramedic and a policeman were driving past when the incident happened so were able to go to the woman’s aid straight away. It took us about an hour and 20 minutes to free her."
