Charlton v Burnley
Charlton are under pressure to appease supporters distraught by the collapse of the club’s multi-million takeover by Dubai based Zabeel Investments when they attempt to end a run of two consecutives defeats at home to Burnley on Saturday.
The fans believed the takeover, with the subsequent investment, would pave the way for a return to the Premier League. Instead, they are left contemplating a slide that has taken the club perilously close to the Championship relegation zone.
Manager Alan Pardew, who admits Tuesday’s second half performance was the team’s worst of the season, promised to ring the changes against a Burnley side who won last season’s corresponding match 3-1.
Whether striker Andy Gray faces his former club is in doubt following a series of disappointing performances.
“Now the takeover is off we are left to focus purely on the business of getting some good results - and quickly,” said Pardew. “I’ve analysed the last two performances and there is no escaping the fact that we are not scoring enough goals.
“So I’m going to make changes on Saturday, not just in personnel, but the way we play because I need to put something in place that will get us better results.
“And I’m not talking short-term. At times like these a manager earns his money.”
Skipper Mark Hudson and Jose Semedo, who missed Tuesday’s home defeat by Bristol City through one-match suspensions, look set to win immediate recalls.
