Ambitious Margate crush former League side

Chester 0 Margate 3

MARGATE recorded their biggest victory of the season to go second in the Nationwide Conference on Saturday. A first goal of the season from Phil Collins, followed by one apiece from Jay Sanders and top scorer Leon Braithwaite, wrapped up a comfortable win and sent former Football League boys Chester to the foot of the table.

Margate remain one of only two teams unbeaten away from home in the Conference, and trail leaders Dagenham and Redbridge by five points. They went in front on 26 minutes after Mark Munday had won the ball in midfield. He then played it to Saunders whose delightful chipped pass allowed Collins to slot home

Three minutes before the break it was 2-0 as Paul Lamb's inswinging corner was only half cleared by the Chester defence and Saunders shot home helped by a deflection.

The third goal arrived two minutes from time as Chester defender Mike Rose's attempted clearance ricocheted off Gate substitute Akpo Sodje and into the path of Braithwaite who netted his ninth goal of the campaign.
