Another low point for Folkestone

Welling United 2, Folkestone Invicta 1

FOLKESTONE Invicta's hopes of building on last Saturday's morale-boosting home win over Weymouth came to nothing, as they lost away to Welling United on Tuesday night.

This was an improved Invicta performance to that which had capitulated 6-1 at home to Welling in the Kent Senior Cup at the start of the month. But it was not to be a fairytale return to Park View Road for former Wings boss Tony Reynolds, who had been brought in as Invicta's assistant manager following that low point in Invicta's season.

Welling opened the scoring after 35 minutes when Anthony Riviere shot low past Maurice Munden following a Paul Jones' cross from the left.

Invicta were level after 42 minutes thanks to centre half John Guest's first goal in senior football. The 21-year-old Guest found the net when he was there to convert the ball in when John Ayling played in from the right after collecting a short corner from James Millar.

But Welling's winner came after 52 minutes, when Billy Burgess hit a low shot from the edge of the area when a ball from the right was allowed to fall to him.

There were bookings for Welling's Tim O'Shea (foul on Tait after 21 minutes), Hogg (late challenge on Scott Lindsey after 27 minutes), Paul Booth (kicking the ball away after 30 minutes), Russell Edwards (foul on Dan Larkin after 80 minutes), and Aboagye (foul on Martin Chandler after 82 minutes).

And for Invicta, Chandler (foul on Burgess after 28 minutes), and Guest (foul on Hogg after 61 minutes).

Invicta lost Michael Everitt with a suspected broken nose after 44 minutes, with Anthony Henry coming on and Andy Morris moving across to right back.

Folkestone Invicta: Munden, Everitt (Henry 33 mins), Larkin, Lindsey, Morris, Guest, Chandler, Millar, Dryden, Tait, Ayling. Unused subs: Towse, Blackman, Egan.
