SUBSTITUTE Simon Mitchell made himself the hero as his extra-time winner won the Kent Senior Cup for Bromley at Hayes Lane on Thursday night.

A topsy-turvy game saw both sides hold the lead before a thrilling climax saw the Lilywhites claim the trophy.

"I think this will go down among the finest of all Kent Senior Cup finals," said KCFA chief executive Keith Masters. "Both Bromley and Gravesend take the competition seriously and it was there for all to see."

Donal O’Sullivan gave Bromley a 31st minute lead in first half dominated by the home side. But in the second of four minutes added for stoppages, Bradley Johnson equalised with a curling shot from 15 yards.

The Fleet controlled the second period and looked to have won the trophy in the 82nd minute when man of the match Danny Slatter beat Bromley goalkeeper Andy Walker with a spectacular rising shot from 30 yards.

Bromley equalised in the 87th minute thanks to top scorer Nic McDonnell who headed home Sam Wood’s free kick, before Mitchell scored the goal that took the cup back to Hayes Lane for the first time since 1997 two minutes into the first period of extra-time.

Attendance: 1,041.
