Charlton 3 Yeovil 2

SHAUN BARTLETT celebrated signing a new contract with the winning goal in Charlton's fourth round tie against Yeovil at The Valley on Saturday.

The South African international and Francis Jeffers, who was making his first start since September, both struck in the second half to book the Addicks a place in the fifth round.

The teams had gone in level at the break after Bryan Hughes had given Charlton the lead only for Paul Terry to equalise on the stroke of half-time.

Hughes volleyed home on 37 minutes after Talal El Karkouri's free-kick was headed on to him by Hermann Hreidarsson, but Charlton's joy was short-lived when Paul Terry fired the visitors level following a good run from Lee Johnson.

Jeffers restored Charlton's lead on 51 minutes when he touched the ball into goal following a Danny Murphy cross and fine work by Luke Young.

A good run by Jerome Thomas five minutes later enabled Bartlett to score what turned out to be the winner with a close range shot that went in off the right hand post.

Yeovil brought themselves back into the game on on 66 minutes when Arron Davies' shot from outside the box bounced over the outstretched Dean Kiely and ended up in the net, but they could not force an equaliser.

Charlton: Kiely, Young, El Karkouri, Fortune, Hreidarsson, Murphy (Euell 87), Holland, Hughes (Konchesky 75), Thomas, Barlett, Jeffers (Johansson 75). Subs Not Used: Andersen, Rommedahl.

Attendance: 22,873.
