Creane first home in 10k

JOHN CREANE, of South Kent Harriers, led from the start to win the Red Lion 10k at Hernhill ahead of a 300-strong field.

Threatening rain clouds failed to deliver a cooling shower and there was plenty of sweat generated in the humid conditions as Creane was joined by Russ Maddams and top veteran Peter Russell in the winning team.

Only the promising 19-year-old Neil Renault (Deal Triathletes) could spoil the SKH party by finishing an excellent second overall.

Pole vaulter, Lee McMeekin of Medway and Maidstone AC gave another reminder of his versatility in fifth place ahead of David Chapman-Jones (Deal Triathletes).

Paul Ross-Davies (Invicta) from Maidstone scored a rare victory over team mate Martyn Rouse in the over 50 veterans category and David Northcroft of Maidstone Harriers claimed the M60 prize.

The women’s race was very close and after leading for nine kilometres Janice Moorekite (Invicta) from Maidstone was passed on the final hill by former junior international, Claire Colmer (Bexley).

Bexley AC were the team winners with Sarah Campbell and Kaeti MacKenzie following Moorekite home.
