Dobriskey misses out on Olympics

LISA DOBRISKEY: Needed to improve by three seconds

THERE was a disappointing weekend for Littlestone athlete Lisa Dobriskey who could not record an Olympic qualifying time in a last ditch attempt to make the Great Britain squad for Athens.

Lisa, who ran so well to notch a personal best in snatching second place at the Olympic Trials meeting last weekend, still need to haul back three seconds on her best to make the qualifying standard.

There was still a chance she could make the squad despite the selectors naming Kelly Holmes and Hayley Tullett for the 1500m berth.

With Holmes also named for the 800m there was the chance for a third slot in the event if the Loughborough student could run the standard.

She orginally aimed to compete in a meeting in Finland but in the end ended up in Madrid where she was up against Holmes and Helen Clitheroe, who she narrowly beat in the Trials. But this time she was off the pace finishing 11th in 4:12.32.

Some consolation was having boyfriend Ricky Soos win his race in Finland to make the squad at 800m just a fraction outside the A standard.
