Dynamos looking for players

FOR THE second time in three weeks the Invicta Dynamos will be renewing old acquaintances at the Ice Bowl.

Last season's player coach Andy Hannah follows in the footsteps of Mikko Skinnari as he makes a swift return to Gillingham on Sunday with his new side Chelmsford Chieftains.

Chelmsford have made a pretty good start to the season beating Romford twice and losing out by the odd goal to Milton Keynes in a 17-goal thriller.

But the Mos do not worry about the reputations of opponents, concentrating instead on their own game, as last Sunday's 4-2 victory over Slough Jets confirmed.

Captain Phil Chard said: "Our little squad is fully fit after Sammy Mykkanen came through training on Tuesday without limping, but we are aware that we need a couple of new players.

"We are seriously looking because realistically we cannot keep up this pace. The players have had to step up their game to compensate like Elliott Andrews who has been phenomenal, but if we don't strengthen we will suffer from burn out."

Following on from last weekend's draining encounters with Romford and Slough comes an equally challenging couple of games against Isle of Wight and Chelmsford.

First up are the Raiders on their notoriously small ice. In their opening game against Nottingham it was apparent the side had a number of new faces with some familiar faces absent.

Peter Nyman has taken on a new role as bench coach at Basingstoke Bison and Luc Chabot is now player coach with new ENPL side Peterborough Phantoms.

Chard said: "It's always tough having 10 fully grown men trying to play on a rink that size, although it can make it exciting with lots of shots flying in. As long as Matt Van Der Velden plays to his usual high, acrobatic standards we'll be fine.

"And on Sunday it will be good to see Andy Hannah again, but I hope he's on the losing side!

"Chelmsford are a very well coached side, a good outfit with some fine British players so it will be another hard game, but we are always confident on home ice."
