Gillingham 0 – 1 Oldham Athletic

A GOAL by Oldham’s Chris Killen after just six minutes extended Gillingham’s miserable run at Priestfield on Saturday.

Looking to bounce back after two consecutive 3-0 defeats, Neale Cooper’s side got off to the worst possible start.

Chris Hope was penalised for a foul on Killen on the left-hand side and the same player was in the right place to head home Andy Liddell’s resulting free kick.

The home side struggled to find a way through the Oldham defence in the opening 45 minutes, but were significantly improved after the break.

The momentum suddenly seemed to be with Gillingham and they began to create chances – Darren Byfield and Jarvis went close with long-range efforts and Andrew Crofts was denied by a last ditch block.

The home side continued to pepper the Oldham goal but failed to find the deserved equaliser.

Substitute Paul Shields came close late on with a well struck volley that was superbly tipped over the bar by Day and then Steve Hislop's header struck the bar in stoppage time.

Gillingham: Brown, Sancho (Hislop 81), Cox, Hope, Rose, Hessenthaler (Shields 72), Crofts, Flynn, Jarvis, Harris (Jackman 72), Byfield.
Subs Not Used: Crichton, Pouton.
Attendance: 6,259.
