Expert Bunyan to coach Holcombe

FORMER Great Britain coach David Bunyan has teamed up with Holcombe Hockey Club in a move that signals the Rochester club’s serious intentions for the future. Bunyan met with chairman David South, first team manager and vice-chairman Mike Haines and director of hockey Steve Haines last week.

Holcombe, whose men’s first team have just won promotion to the South Premier League, will reap the benefits of Bunyan’s vast experience when the new coaching consultant starts work proper at pre-season training on August 20. Bunyan is one of the country’s premier hockey coaches, having previously worked with GB and Wales national squads.

As well as his new role at Holcs, he will continue his involvement with National League side Canterbury, where he is the director of hockey. Steve Haines said: “David brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. He will be a tremendous asset, particularly in providing a clear focus for the club to realise its targets.”

The ladies section has secured the services of Roger Allen to their coaching staff. Allen, who has previously managed Exeter-based National League side ISCA, takes on the newly-created role of ladies first team coach and manager.
