Ellen Gandy's Olympic dream ended in the semi-final of the 200m butterfly after she missed out on qualifying for the final by 3.66 seconds.

The 16-year-old from Bromley, and five times gold medalist at the 2005 European Youth Olympics and silver medalist at the 2007 European Championships, is expected to make a real splash in 2012 and her trip to China was all about the experience.

Gandy qualified from heat 4 by recording 2.08.98 - it was just enough, by only .87 seconds, to creep into the discipline's top 16 swimmers and the semi-finals.

However, the teenager could not match her heat time and finished her semi-final in last place, in 2.10.60.
