Gills draw Saints at home in cup

GILLINGHAM'S Worthington Cup luck held as they pulled out Premier League Southampton at home in the third round draw. The tie will be played at Priestfield on Tuesday, October 9, kick off 7.45pm.

Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler said: "We're at home against a Premier League club and you can't ask for better than that.

Saints registered their first Premier League win - and goal - in Saturday's 1-0 win at Bolton.

Gillingham and Southampton last met in the League Cup in a second round, first leg, tie at Priestfield on September 23, 1992. The match, watched by a crowd of 7,480, finished goalless.

Southampton won the second leg 3-0 at The Dell with Matt Le Tissier scoring twice.

Saints are among a number of clubs to have been linked with Gillingham striker Marlon King this season.
