Gills eyeing four wins on the spin

Shrewsbury v Gillingham

Gillingham go in search of a fourth straight win on Saturday when they travel to Shrewsbury.

Mark Stimson’s side are full of confidence after bagging their first hat-trick of wins in 17 months and he believes the Gills have nothing to worry about against a side tipped by many for promotion.

“Why fear teams?” said Stimson. “You have to have total confidence in your own ability and have a game plan. We’ve certainly been doing that of late and that’s what we’ll be doing on Saturday.

“The confidence has always been there within the group. We know what we want to achieve and know we’re going to have to work extremely hard to get there.

“We’ve won three games on the spin now and we have to try to maintain that.

“Shrewsbury have got some good players and they’re a good side and rightly at the start of the season everyone was tipping them to be right among it.

“It will be a good test for us and we can’t go there in better shape so we’re looking forward to the game.”

Stimson will need to assess Gary Mulligan ahead of the game, after he went off injured with a knock on Saturday. Returning to the squad will be Andrew Crofts after international duty together with Mark Bentley, who missed last week’s game due to the birth of his second child.

Gillingham have played two games away in League 2, drawing against Bournemouth and beating Darlington.

“So far, so good away from home,” added Stimson. “That’s been helped by the magnificent following we’ve had in both games. They’ve been very vocal and that can only help the players.

“The more encouragement the players have the better they are going to perform.”
