Mark Stimson is hoping to have a new coach in place this week

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson hopes to introduce a new face to the training ground on Monday.

The Gills boss will bring in a new coach to assist in training and add experience to the back-room department.

“He’ll be great for the club because he’s had good experience at a higher level,” said Stimson.

“Now we’ve got a nucleus of 28 pros training and you want to give everyone a fair opportunity.

“It’s hard when you have to take 18 away and leave 10 to maybe join the youth team on a Friday and people get deflated. We don’t want that because we know we’re going to need everyone.

“I know he’s wanted by a few other clubs and the longer we leave it the more chance he has of being tapped up by someone else.

“He’s been around the Premiership and Championship over the last few years and he’s going to be a big help for me to learn off him, and also the players can learn from him too.”
