Gills striker's contract terminated

ROBERTS: Was not in manager Neale Cooper's plans

GILLINGHAM striker Iwan Roberts has been released by the club after agreeing to a termination of his contract.

The 37-year-old joined the Gills at the start of last season but failed to find the sort of form that made him a hero at his former club Norwich City.

Roberts had a disappointing start to the 2004/05 season and following the appointment of Stan Ternent in December, the striker soon found himself out-of-favour and was loaned out to Cambridge.

The Welshman returned in the summer but was clearly not in new manager Neale Cooper’s plans.

After being over-looked during a striker-crisis a fortnight ago, it was only a matter of time before Roberts departed.
