Golf clubhouse extension opened

WALMER and Kingsdown Golf Club held an opening ceremony for their £300,000 clubhouse extension.

Club president Frank Boswell performed the official opening by unveiling a plaque and thanked all those who had helped with the work.

He also thanked members for putting up with three months of disruption.

The project features an extension to the dining room and bar, new kitchen and refurbished changing rooms.

Two special competitions were held at the weekend to mark the opening. The winners of the men’s section in Friday’s Triple Six competition were Jimmy Law, John Weller and Tosher Brown, who scored 81 points.

Runners-up with 80 points were Ehab Wahdan, Ian Boutabba and Ian Dunkerley, who won on countback from Steve Mitchell, Brian Barrows and Dave Arthur.

The ladies’ competition was won by Denni Frater, Christine Cavanagh and Elaine Branston with 74 points. Runners-up with 71 were Terri Connolly, Sue McClellan and Sue Bennett.

Saturday’s Texas Scramble was won by the team of David Howcroft, David Chidwick, John Bromfield and Ann Bromfield with net 57.3.

Runners-up with net 57.8 were Colin Little, David Little, Jack Little and club captain Stan Brittain.
