Golfers’ bid to land pro-am title

LITTLESTONE golfers Andrew Jones and Brian Hopper are among 16 pro-am pairings from all over Great Britain and Ireland who fly to the Algarve on Friday, September 3, in their quest to win Europe's biggest pro-am, the Lombard Trophy.

Celebrating 10 years of sponsorship by The Royal Bank of Scotland, the Grand Final, over 36 holes at the acclaimed San Lorenzo course, will offer the professional winner a prize of £10,000, up £2,500 from last year.

From an original entry of 1,200 golf clubs throughout the British Isles, the winners of the 16 regional finals conjured up such improbably low scoring that in some instances scores of 10 and 11 under par were not good enough to win.

The final competition rounds are played on Sunday and Monday September 5 and 6.
