Hampshire v Kent

KENT took four wickets in the morning session and enforced the follow-on on day three of their LV Championship match with Hampshire at The Rose Bowl.

The visitors needed 30 minutes and just under six overs to polish off the home first innings for 216 and had the hosts batting again by 11.05 still 279 in arrears.

Martin Saggers made the first breakthrough, getting Shane Warne (37) to waft at a wide away-swinger he edged to second slip where Martin van Jaarsveld held a sharp, shoulder-high chance.

In the next over James Bruce took a four off Ryan McLaren to see Hampshire to their sole batting bonus point, but the right-hander then played back to a shooting off-cutter to lose his middle and off stumps.

McLaren then wrapped up the innings by having David Balcombe (29) caught at deep mid-wicket off a well timed pull shot that flew into the grasp of Simon Cook.

Kent, having considered the option of having a bat, eventually decided to make Hampshire follow on but for the second time in the game Michael Brown and Michael Carberry made a bright start with an opening stand worth 77 in 26 overs.

Tredwell, on to bowl his off-spinners as early as the eighth over, eventually broke the stand bowling Carberry around his legs for a stylish 31 as Hampshire went into lunch on 80 - an overall deficit of 199.
