Gillingham striker Danny Kedwell has been backed to shine in League 1 by team-mate Steven Gregory

Steven Gregory says Danny Kedwell can be a hit in League 1 with Gillingham next season.

The two players helped AFC Wimbledon to promotion from the Conference in 2011 and were reunited at Priestfield last season as the Gills won League 2.

Kedwell finished the last two seasons as leading scorer for Gillingham and will be playing in the third tier of English football for the first time.

“He could have played in League 1 before now,” said 26-year-old midfielder Gregory.

“He’s around 30 now and it’s a surprise that this will be the first time he is playing at that level, if you consider his quality and scoring record. He can definitely do it in League 1.”

Gregory signed for the Gills in January after being released by Bournemouth, having consulted with Kedwell before joining and played 17 games at the back end of the season.
