Points win puts Chiericato into regional finals

YOUNG Whitstable boxer James Chiericato is through to the regional finals of the National Schoolboy Championships after defeating Dennis Buchanan, of Hastings Westhill, at Camberley.

The 12-year-old Canterbury ABC member repeated his win of last year over the same opponent by a clear points margin. Chiericato, who repeatedly caught his Sussex rival with some good uppercuts as his shorter opponent ran in, has been awarded a bye in the next round.

This means his next bout will be against Dorking's A Smith in the regional finals, which are being hosted by Canterbury at the Northgate Ward Community Centre on Saturday, February 2.

Tickets for the event are £7 for adults and £5 for under-15s. Further details may be obtained from Dave Kenward on 01843 821970.
