Mark Robson has been appointed first team coach by Gillingham.

Robson, 39, recently left Charlton after serving in a similar capacity and had been at The Valley for eight years.

The former Charlton, West Ham and Tottenham winger will add valuable experience to Gillingham's back-room staff as they seek an immediate return to League 1.

“He’ll be great for the club because he’s had good experience at a higher level,” said Stimson.

“Now we’ve got a nucleus of 28 pros training and you want to give everyone a fair opportunity.

“It’s hard when you have to take 18 away and leave 10 to maybe join the youth team on a Friday and people get deflated. We don’t want that because we know we’re going to need everyone.

“He’s been around the Premiership and Championship over the last few years and he’s going to be a big help for me to learn off him, and also the players can learn from him too.”

Robson and Stimson are long term friends and were both at Tottenham together during the late 80's and early 90's.
