Assistant manager John Schofield shook off Gillingham's injury-time disappointment to praise his side's performance against Brentford.

Gills were heading for all three points after Adebayo Akinfenwa's first-half opener but Farid El Alagui made it 1-1 at the death.

Schofield, though, wanted to focus on the positives. He said: "It was a great game. I really enjoyed it.

"We spoke previously over the last couple of games that if we keep being consistent with our performances, the results will come our way. And I think we showed that today.

"We spoke about going out and getting the crowd going and starting the game brightly, which I thought we did.

"I think that's what we're about - playing at a high intensity and getting in people's faces.

"And then when we get the ball, being good, showing good quality, keeping the tempo and keeping the ball moving quickly. I thought we did that very well.

"We changed the point of attack very well and very quickly and we created quite a few problems for Brentford."

Akinfenwa's 40th-minute strike was Gills' first goal of the season.

And Schofield added: "One thing's for sure - none of the strikers or any of the players at the club are lacking confidence. Everybody wants to get on the scoresheet.

"It were great play, a good crossfield diagonal. Keds (Danny Kedwell) kept it alive at the back stick and a nice little bit of footwork from Bayo and he sticks it in the net."
