IFFY ONUORA believes extra competition for places in the Gillingham squad could yet see them rise up the table.

Steve Lomas's recovery from his hamstring problems has led the Gills not to extend midfielder Adam Nowland's loan spell from Preston and Onuora is hoping a bigger squad will have a beneficial effect on results.

Onuora said: "Everyone is fit and everyone is hungry to play. Hopefully, we'll get to the stage where we'll have 20 players with recent game action and not just 11, or 16 players.

"If you get players playing and hungry for their places, it doesn't half make a difference. It makes the manager's job harder but it's a nice problem."
