Stiff challenges confronting ice stars

CARL GREENHOUS: "They're two big games"

THE Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team's player/coach Carl Greenhous will be looking for another huge effort from his players as they face two of the top four teams this weekend.

On Saturday, the Gillingham-based Mos travel to face the Chelmsford Chieftains and take on Swindon Lynx at the Ice Bowl on Sunday. But after last weekend’s double win the Mos will be hoping for more of the same.

Greenhous will be hoping to exact revenge on the Chieftains for the 10-5 drubbing they suffered last month but with another short bench the Dynamos are going to have to pull out all the stops to win.

He said: “They’re two big games. The teams we beat last weekend aren’t of the strength of the teams in the top tier and it’s teams like Swindon and Chelmsford we need to pick points up against if we are to get into the play-offs.

“A couple of good wins at the weekend will give us a lot of confidence for the remainder of the season.” With Stuart Low and Kevin Parrish out of the country, Greenhous will again turn to former Mustang Garrett Bruce who made a great debut last weekend against Romford.

Greenhous added: “He did very well in the ice time I gave him, better than I expected, and we need our younger players to step up a notch.

“We’ve no news on an import as yet because we’re being extra careful that we bring the right man in. Not just for what he does on the ice but for his compatibility with the rest of the team. We’re looking at a couple of British players at the moment but there’s nothing to report yet.

“We didn’t do our research properly on Sammi Mykannen and I think our decision to release him has been vindicated so we’re being extra careful to make sure that whoever we bring in is the right man for the job.”
