Gillingham v Luton

Gillingham go into their first League 2 match of the season at Priestfield tomorrow (Saturday) with manager Mark Stimson wanting a victory whatever the performance.

Luton are the visitors and Stimson wants his players to follow up the draw at Bournemouth with three points against Mick Harford’s men.

"We’re desperate to win," he said. "If we win ugly and horrible I am sure the fans will go home happy and if we win in an entertaining fashion then it is the perfect scenario.

"We will try and play with wide players who can get at full-backs and get crosses into the box.

"We have strikers who can get on the end of them and if we can supply those strikers, they will score goals."

Even at this early stage of the season, the Gills manager believes his team are looking like a different prospect from last season.

"When I took over, we were playing well for 60 minutes and then losing," he said.

"The first two games this season I have seen we’re stronger and fitter than before because of all the hard work the boys have put in.

"I am quietly confident this group of players we’re putting together will excite the crowd and win enough matches to get us where we want to be."
