Charlton Athletic v Wigan Athletic

CHARLTON winger Jerome Thomas's sudden impact after arriving as a substitute in the 3-1 win at Sunderland looks likely to earn him a recall to the starting line-up for Saturday's opening Premiership home game against Wigan.

The youngster replaced Dennis Rommedahl to dazzling effect after an hour at the Stadium of Light.

He now seems certain to come into the starting XI at the expense of the suspended Darren Ambrose, who was dismissed at Sunderland for a two-footed tackled on full-back Stephen Wright.

Manager Alan Curbishley was full of praise for Thomas's performance, which bodes well for his selection hopes at the weekend.

He said: "When he came on he was direct and positive and showed the kind of form he was producing early last season.
