GILLINGHAM manager Stan Ternent is refusing hit the panic button just yet, whatever the outcome of the relegation battle against Rotherham.

Win, lose or draw on Saturday, the new boss feels there is just enough time to put things right with the season still only halfway through.

Ternent has made it clear he isn’t worried where the points come from and is focusing on his own team rather than others.

He said: "Whether it’s Rotherham or whoever, we have to go out there and get some points on the board. We’ve got to start by getting clean sheets.

"Everyone is saying it’s a must-win but that doesn’t matter one iota. If we don’t get 50 points or thereabouts, then we’re relegated. It’s a simple as that.”

The Millers have yet to win on their travels this season and lie six points adrift of the Gills at the bottom of the Championship table.

Ternent has plenty of belief in his players and is sure that his side are more than capable of avoiding any slip-ups.

He said: “It will be a tight game against Rotherham who are in a similar situation to ourselves and they will want to get something out of the match.

"All we need is to perform to our capabilities and have a little bit of luck and we’ll be fine.”

He insisted there is no point in the club looking around to see how other relegation-threatened teams are doing.

"Whatever everyone else does is not a matter of concern to us. It’s what we do in matches that counts," he said.

"There are 69 points to play for, we’ve got 18 and we need 11 wins minimum in my view. The lads are aware of it, I’m aware of it, everyone’s aware of it.

"It’s no good worrying about it as this is the situation we’re in. We’ve got 22 games so let’s go.”
