KENT'S golfers did well in the English Ladies Closed championships staged at Littlestone, near Hythe.

Pick of the crop was Sene Valley's Nicola Timmins who was only just beaten in the semi-finals by Worpleston's Kerry Knowles who finished one up. The pair had been the top qualifiers after the two medals rounds with 149 totals.

Knowles went on to take the title with a 6 & 5 win over Chloe Court (Goodwood).

Timmins fired rounds of 75 and 74 to lead the way in the top of the qualifiers and also performing well was Rochester and Cobham's Danielle Masters with 77, 78 and Cinque Ports Sue Hedges 80, 82.

Missing out on the cut were Sene Valley's Sian Reddick with 83, 81 and Ashford's Helen Batt who was not at her best with 84, 90.

Timmins went on to put out Hedges in the first round of the matchplay 2 & 1 and then played well to beat Laura Day (Vale 4 & 2).

In the quarter finals Timmins beat Emma Weeks (Hockley) one up and in the semis Knowles never led until the 18th after Timmins had stormed into a three hole lead by the seventh where she holed from 40 feet for an eagle.
