A husband accused of murdering his teenage wife on Christmas Day has appeared in court.
Mohammad Qoraishi was not asked to enter a plea during the brief hearing at Maidstone Crown Court today by TV link with Elmley Prison.
The body of 19-year-old Parwin Quriashi was found at their flat at Kentish Court, off London Road in Maidstone shortly before 1.20pm last Tuesday.
Bearded Qoraishi, 27, spoke only to be identified and to give his nationality as Afghan and his birthdate.
He will enter a plea on January 18. A provisional trial date was set for June 3.
Other residents have expressed their shock at the death in a neighbourhood described as "peaceful".
Jack Jennett, defending, did not apply for bail and Qoraishi was remanded in custody.
Parwin was a former pupil at Maplesden Noakes School and head teacher Richard Owen said everyone at the school had been "shocked and saddened" by the news.
"Parwin was a lovely, engaging and intelligent student who was looking forward to an exciting future," he said.
"The staff who taught and supported Parwin are extremely upset. Our hearts go out to her family.
"Parwin will always be remembered by everyone who came into contact with her at the school and we are struggling to comprehend that she has been the victim of such tragic circumstances."
