Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, on Netflix, filmed at Detling Diner, Maidstone, and the Ashford Cattle Market

Eagled-eyed Guy Ritchie fans have spotted a couple of Kent filming locations in the director’s latest Netflix hit, The Gentlemen.

The eight-part crime-drama series, starring The White Lotus actor Theo James, is based on the 2019 film of the same name.

It was released on the streaming platform last Thursday and follows the story of Eddie Halstead who inherits a large estate, unaware it is the front for a drug empire, after the death of his father.

With no experience in the criminal underworld, Eddie must take over the operation or lose everything.

The series also stars Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass, Daniel Ings as Freddy Halstead and Joely Richardson as Lady Sabrina Halstead.

Kent’s film office confirmed that filming took place at the Detling Diner in Maidstone, along the A249 by Jade’s Crossing and the Ashford Cattle Market.

A spokesman for the Kent Film Office said: “As the county town of Kent and seat of local governance, Maidstone plays an important part in Kent’s history.

“The River Medway runs through Maidstone’s town centre, which is bustling with many shops, restaurants, bars, churches and a museum.

“Recent productions to have been filmed in Maidstone include This Time with Alan Partridge Season 2 (2021), Whitstable Pearl (2021-2022) and The Last Rite (2021).

“With high-speed connections to London, Ashford is a busy market town with a bustling town centre that boasts two shopping malls, vibrant cafés and pubs and a partly pedestrianised high street. The Thompsons (2012) was also filmed in Ashford.”

Netflix has been contacted for comment.

This isn’t the only time a big-budget show or movie has been filmed in the county.

Chatham Dockyard, in Medway, has been used as a set for multiple series including BBC’s Call The Midwife and Marvel’s Disney Plus Loki series.

More recently the Kingsferry Bridge, which connects Sittingbourne to Sheppey, was used in the Hollywood blockbuster The Beekeeper.

The film, which starred Jason Statham was released in cinemas earlier this year.
