New Barn Road in Sutton Valence closed due to flooding as more heavy rainfall predicted in Maidstone area

Some two flood alerts were issued, warning that flooding is possible today and flooding of low lying lands roads is expected to continue throughout the day.

The alerts are in place for the River Bourne from Hadlow to East Peckham and the River Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Hampstead Lock at Yalding.

Also for the River Medway from Penshurst to Hampstead Lock, including the Leigh Flood Storage area, the Ensfield Road, Tonbridge, Paddock Wood, the Hop Farm, East Peckham, Branbridges and Hale Street.

The Environment Agency says it also expects flooding to affect Tonbridge playing fields and town centre car parks.

A section of New Barn Road in Sutton Valence has closed today for up to seven days due to carriageway flooding between Four Oaks Road and A247 in Headcorn Road.

The alternative route is via Four Oaks Road, onto Plum Tree Road.
