Search for body in River Medway

A search of the River Medway has resumed on Thursday morning after a woman reported seeing a body floating through the river near Maidstone.

Police began searching the river just after 4pm on Wednesday, December 30, after a woman driver told police she saw a body as she was driving along St Peter's Street, Maidstone.

Police carried out an extensive search. After consulting with marine experts over tidal flow, they concentrated their search around the Malta Inn at Allington. Several police vehicles were at the scene.

By 6pm, no body had been found, no one had been reported missing, and the search was called off for the night.

As soon as it was daylight on Thursday the search resumed, but no body has yet been found.
