George Wright busking in Maidstone with equipment he got from DIY store Robert Dyas

Shoppers in Maidstone have been enjoying music from a teenager playing an improvised drum kit today.

George Wright has been entertaining audiences with equipment purchased from homeware retailer, Robert Dyas.

The 15-year-old had only set up camp in Jubilee Square for a matter of minutes before he had accumulated a lot of attention from passersby.

George, who goes to school at Hampton School, Middlesex, is on his summer holidays and visiting his father, David, who lives on Bowermount Road.

Rather than a conventional drum kit, George was today using flower pots, saucepans and other kitchen equipment - the only conventional part of his makeshift kit was a hi-hat.

The schoolboy has only been drumming for three years, after his dad encouraged him to get involved with the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra.

Mr Wright said: "George was always a keen pianist, his brother and I both play wind instruments. We wanted to do something all together, so I suggested he take up percussion, to get involved with the orchestra.

David added: "He wanted to busk but couldn't wheel out his whole drum kit, so had to improvise.

"After only playing for three years, he has turned out to be quite good."
