Traffic ground to a halt on the M2 following a crash near Chatham.

It left a badly damaged car stranded in the fast lane and at least two vans are parked up on the hard shoulder.

Witnesses say it happened on the coastbound carriageway at around 5.40pm.

Traffic built-up in the surrounding area with tailbacks going all the way down Blue Bell Hill and back into Chatham.

The road eventually cleared at around 7.20pm.
