The incident happened between 1pm and 1.10pm in Rainham High Street on Monday.

It’s alleged after the victim’s handbag was grabbed, she fought back to keep hold of it and was then punched in the face by the female suspect.

Both suspects, who ran from the scene with the victim’s property, were arrested around three hours later.

Jerry Maughan, of Maya Place, New Southgate, London, and Mary-Jo Smith, of Caley Road, Tunbridge Wells, were later charged with robbery.

Maughan, 24, appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded until a later hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on a date yet to be determined.
