NatWest courier driver robbery: Two in court over Rainham raid

Two men have appeared in court charged with committing a cash-in-transit robbery.

A courier driver was robbed outside NatWest in High Street, Rainham at around 10.30am on Wednesday.

A total of £25,000 was snatched during the raid.

Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate officers soon arrested Samnit Sidhu and Warren Young on suspicion of the offence.

Young, 36 and of Cavendish Avenue, Gillingham, is charged with robbery.

Sidhu, 23, of Cromwell Road in Grays, Essex, has been charged with robbery and unrelated counts of possessing cocaine with intent to supply, possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious substance.

At Medway Magistrates' Court this afternoon Debbie Jones, prosecuting, explained CCTV captured a man approaching a G4S courier who was carrying a box of cash.

The court heard the pair work together at Thames Water.

Father-of-three Young's solicitor explained he was on the school run at the time of the robbery. He was taking his youngest child to primary school in Rainham.

Both men were remanded in custody.

Police are still searching for a third suspect and the stolen money.

The case will next be heard at Maidstone Crown Court on October 25.
