River rescue begins

A search has been launched amid fears that somebody may have fallen overboard from a motor launch on the River Medway.

Coastguard crews and the inshore Sheerness lifeboat were called after the lock keeper at Bullnose, near Chatham Docks, spotted the empty boat with its engine running.

The coastguard's helicopter from the Solent is also on its way to join in the search along the shoreline.

The 20ft vessel was last seen drifting along the river around the docks.
